Features That Makes the Wyvern Road Bike Light Impressive
Build quality
Wyvern has such a unique design at first glance.
It is not so wrong to say that it has a slight cuboidal shape with rounded edges, harnessing the aerodynamic advantage. You can choose the color in either pink & white or blue & white.
The ergonomic design of the Wyvern light is certified with the following dimensions:
- 1.38 in (35 mm) in height
- 4.21 in (107 mm) in length
- 1.26 in (32 mm) in width
- 3.6oz (102g) weight
So, it’s clear that Olight has ensured that the light fits perfectly to the weight system of the bike.
The Wyvern bike light is made from PC-ABS, also known as Polycarbonate/acrylonitrile butadiene styrene. It is an engineering thermoplastic created from a blend of PC and ABS. That’s why there is such a unique color with a unique shape.
It should also be noted that this light is rustproof as it’s not metallic in any way. Don’t worry about its strength if you’re unfamiliar with PC-ABS; it’s a very strong material.
User Interface
So many people, including us, do not like complex user interfaces for bike lights. All that fumbling around could potentially get you in trouble.
So, ideally, there should be one button for a bike light — you guessed it right, Wyvern bike light has that.
The button is large enough to use your thumb to activate and switch between modes — yes! It has modes about which we will talk next.
The placement of the switch is very convenient, too; it’s on the top, making it easier to access.
So, how does it work?
- From OFF: Press and hold for about 1 second to turn it on
- From ON: Press and hold about 1 second to turn off, and 1 click to cycle across all modes (low, med, high, quick flash, slow flash)
Remember there is a mode memory, too; this lets you quickly access the last mode you were in.
Olight Wyvern features a lock function too. This is to ensure that the light is not inadvertently switched on. You can access that by long pressing the button for 3 seconds to turn it on and off.
You will see a single LED flashing when your voltage is critically low; this is the low voltage protection.
Let’s look at the modes next.
Lighting Modes and Brightness Range
A light’s most important set of features MUST be about lighting.
Luckily Olight understands it very well. That’s why the Wyvern road bike light comes with three operational modes.
In the highest mode, the output is 300 lumens and reaches a peak beam distance of 80m (262ft).
The medium mode emits 200 lumens, whereas the lowest mode emits 100 lumens.
As you can see, the 100-lumen gap between each mode lets you manage the battery life more than you’d expect. For bike lights, at least 6-7 hours of continuous operation is admirable.
But is that all?
No.
You ALSO get a slow flash that uses up to 0/100 lumens with a runtime of 13 hours. The other version is the quick flash, with a similar 0/100 lumens range and an almost-equal runtime of 12.5 hours.
Now, let’s look at the Wyvern’s battery.
Battery Level Indicator
When you’re cycling for hours, it is crucial to know the current battery level. But the problem with traditional bike lights is that they don’t have a battery level indicator. This paves the way for massive risks when you’re out on your bicycle for a long time. Thankfully Wyvern light doesn’t have that issue.
Olight Wyvern light comes with an easy-to-read battery level indicator that shows the battery percentage in standby mode. The memory function helps you start your adventures quickly. It’s on the top, so you can simply look at it while riding.
Who likes to get off the bicycle just to check the battery level?
You can know the battery percentage on four 25% quadrants with 4 LEDs dedicated to that.
That’s why you’ll always know the status of your battery as you should know.
The Mounting Method
Lack of a battery level is not the only problem with modern bike lights; it’s mounting too. That problem is not here in the tiniest bit.
Olight’s Wyvern bike light comes with a versatile Garmin mount. Because of that, it’s super easy to mount it on the handle. Not only that, you don’t need ANY tools to mount it.
Additionally, you can also get a helmet mount or a TTA out-front mount for more mounting options.
The safe mounting position of this bike light also allows you to ride on all sorts of bumpy surfaces. That’s one of the reasons why more adventurous cyclists prefer the Wyvern road bike light.
Runtime Aspects and Rechargeability
The Olight Wyvern Road Light features a Type-C charging method, which allows for quick and efficient charging of the device.
With a massive 2000mAh battery capacity, the Olight Wyvern Road Light can be fully charged in under 2.5 hours, thanks to the fast USB Type-C charging port.
This feature ensures that your bike light is always ready to go when you need it, and you don’t need to worry about running out of power during your ride.
What about the relevant runtimes of each mode? The high mode’s corresponding run time is 3.5 hours, the medium mode runs for 5.5 hours, and the lowest mode runs for 11.5 hours.
Additionally, the Type-C charging method is becoming increasingly popular in modern devices.
So, having a Type-C compatible bike light is a convenient feature that can save you the hassle of carrying multiple chargers or adapters.
Anti-Glare Light
The Olight Wyvern Road Light is equipped with an anti-glare light feature, which is designed to reduce the risk of blinding oncoming traffic.
The beam of the light is well spread and soft, ensuring that it does not create a harsh glare that could potentially distract or blind other cyclists or drivers on the road.
This important safety feature helps prevent accidents and ensures that everyone on the road can see and be seen clearly. The anti-glare light feature is essential when cycling in urban areas or areas with heavy traffic.
This is where there are likely to be many other cyclists, pedestrians, and vehicles on the road. By reducing the risk of glare, the Olight Wyvern Road Light helps to make cycling safer and more enjoyable for everyone.
Durability Against Shock and Water
You don’t want your light to stop working after one single rain. Not to mention, the high moisture content on some days is equally dangerous.
That’s why the Wyvern light comes with an IPX4 waterproof rating.
On the flip side, bikes fall down all the time. Even if there is a solid grip on the mounting, there’s the tiniest possibility for it to fall down. The 1m impact resistance is more than enough for that.
Mistakes to Avoid When Buying Bike Lights
You should NOT ride a bicycle without lights. But that doesn’t mean you should buy just about any light. Here are the 10 most critical mistakes to avoid when biking lights.
Not Considering the Brightness Range
Brightness range in a flashlight gives you full control of the light, and it gives you more options when the range is wider; keep that in your mind.
Ignoring the Battery Life
Ensure the light has a battery life that lasts long enough for your ride. Do not forget to check the highest and shortest battery life in the respective modes.
Disregarding the Beam Pattern
You must make sure the light has a beam pattern that provides enough visibility in front of you and doesn’t blind other road users.
Not Choosing the Right Type
Bicycle lights come in different types, such as headlights, taillights, and even wheel lights. Choosing the wrong type can make your ride less safe and less enjoyable.
Buying Cheap Lights
It’s tempting to buy cheap lights, but they often don’t last long, and they may not be bright enough to keep you safe — it’s not a risk worth taking.
Not Checking the Mounting
The mounting system of the light is essential to keep it in place during the ride.
Make sure the light’s mounting is secure and easy to use because you don’t want to keep stopping repeatedly to fix the light.
Overlooking the Weather Resistance
Weather resistance is crucial for bicycle lights. If the light isn’t weather-resistant, it may not work correctly or even break when exposed to rain or snow.
Forgetting to Read Reviews
Don’t forget to read reviews from other cyclists before buying a light. Reviews can provide valuable insights into the light’s quality, reliability, and ease of use.
Price, Warranty and Refund Policy of the Wyvern Bike Light
You’d be surprised to hear that you can get the Olight Wyvern road bike light for just $22.99.
You also get a 30-day money-back guarantee from the date that the order was RECEIVED — that’s the fairest approach.
But remember that to be eligible for a return, the item must be in its original packaging, unworn, and in new condition. You will receive a return label to return the item once you apply for a refund or replacement.
Don’t worry; no need to pay for the shipping cost.
Once your return is received, a refund or replacement will be processed. After that, a credit will automatically be applied to your original payment method. The whole process doesn’t exceed 5 days to show up on any bank statements.
It should be noted that Olight requires you to contact the original seller if you bought it from a third party.
Where to Buy the Flashlight?
As you may already know, Olight has two official sites, and buying from either of them is the best choice. One is Olightstore.com, and the other is Olightworld.com, but here is the link from which we bought mine.
What Customers Say About the Wyvern Bike Light?
There is no hard and fast rule that the Wyvern light has to be a children’s light. But if a parent can rely on that, you can most certainly do too.
Yet another parent prefers the light for its brightness and strength.
The wyvern bike light could be the ideal gift too. After all, a 10/10 rating is a strong endorsement.
Now, let us tell you how the Olight Wyvern road bike light worked with us.
Our Experience With the Wyvern Road Bike Light
Like I said, I got my hands on the Wyvern road bike light, and I tested all of its features individually.
For starters, I loved how the PC-ABS material feels, and it feels rigid enough; not as rigid as metal, but rigid enough.
I was particularly impressed with the three lighting modes the Olight Wyvern offers. I tested each mode and found that the highest mode emitted an impressive 300 lumens of light, which was enough to keep us visible and safe on even the darkest roads.
The medium mode emitted 200 lumens, and the lowest mode emitted 100 lumens, both of which were still bright enough to provide adequate visibility while extending the battery life.
The anti-glare nature compliments this performance. I tested this feature by riding in bright sunlight and found that it provided clear and consistent visibility without any distracting glare.
Speaking of battery life, I was impressed with the Olight Wyvern’s maximum runtime of 11.5 hours.
I tested this by using it for multiple rides through the week, well timing it.
It sure provided consistent and reliable light throughout the entire ride.
The total cumulative runtime was about 11 hours, and that adds up.
One of the standout features of the Olight Wyvern is its tool-free mounting method. I tested this by attaching the light to various bike handlebars and found it quick and easy to mount and unmount.
I’m sure that it is convenient to transfer the light between different bikes or take it with you when you’re on the go.
Another impressive feature of the Olight Wyvern is its Type-C charging method, which can fully charge the 2000mAh battery in under 2.5 hours.
I found that charging the light was quick and convenient, allowing us to spend more time riding and less time waiting for the battery to charge. But it took me about 2h and 40 mins, but that’s understandable.
Oh! I didn’t mention the battery level indicator!
In addition to its brightness modes, the Olight Wyvern also features a 4-LED-based battery level indicator, allowing you to easily track your remaining battery life.
I found this feature to be incredibly useful, as it provided us with an accurate and real-time display of how much battery life I had left.
That gave me the peace of mind to ride for longer without worrying about the battery dying, and it should surely give you peace of mind too.
The Olight Wyvern also features an IPX4 water resistance rating, making it ideal for wet and rainy weather. Well, I technically held it under my shower, and it works perfectly fine.
It was perfectly fine after dipping in water too. But you probably shouldn’t do it.
Don’t worry — I dropped it a couple of times too! It was functioning perfectly fine after that. I did it, so you don’t have to check it yourself.
So, it’s safe to say that Olight’s Wyvern DEFINITELY managed to impress me!
