Olight Baton 3 Pro Review (2024) Is it Worth the Upgrade?

Last Updated on October, 2024

If you’ve ever read my reviews, you know how brutally critical I am.

That’s one reason why top-end flashlight companies rely on reviewers like I am — they all want to know what the most critical customer would say.

I was anything but easy on Olight’s Baton 3 Pro.

But this is one of those rare times when I felt a bit defeated.

Curious to find out what I did? Let’s jump right in.

The Company Behind Baton 3 Pro

olight company logo

I have relied on Olight for years, and I know most of you have. But for those of you who don’t know, and as per my SOP, let me brief you a little bit about the company.

Olight is a world-renowned Chinese brand that also operates based in Georgia in the United States. So, quality assurance is ensured by two major tech countries in the world.

Since 2007, Olight has been a real headache for low-quality flashlight brands, even for critical reviewers like myself, just because of their high quality.

But what is the Baton 3 pro?

A Glimpse of the Baton 3 Pro

The Baton 3 Pro is the successor of Baton 3 and the one before, S1R Baton II. Olight seems to push its limits with this one.

It’s a very small flashlight that fits in your palm and could be your flashlight for all your work.

Baton 3 was a borderline flawless product with 20 days of battery life and multiple operational modes. Olight’s engineering and design team has fixed, added, and improved many aspects that not even we could think of.

Olight Baton 3 Pro is the result of it.

What’s in the Package?

inside the package of Olight Baton 3 Pro

As usual, Olight’s signature package included the below items.

  1. Flashlight (Battery and Pocket Clip Included) x1
  2. MCC 1A Magnetic Charging Cable x 1
  3. Lanyard ×1
  4. Pouch ×1
  5. L-shape Stand ×1
  6. Baton 3 Pro User Manual

Game-Changing Features of Baton 3 Pro

Design

I have always liked Olight’s knurling patterns. They’ve been in the game for so long that they know what matters.

That’s why the knurling design has changed in the Baton 3 pro.

I held the Baton 3 pro and the Baton 3, and I clearly felt how the Baton 3 pro has increased friction.

What’s important is that this grip is completely comfortable.

The Baton 3 pro comes in 3 colors; black, Desert Tan, and OD green.

In addition to that, the two-way clip of the Baton 3 pro is larger and wider than the Baton 3. This design feature allows a more secure clipping in the pocket or backpack.

This was one area of improvement I even pinpointed in a Baton 3 review. So, it’s nice to see how Olight continues to serve the customers’ needs very well.

  • What is the L-Stand Feature?
Olight Baton 3 Pro hanging on the L-Stand

The L-stand of Baton 3 pro is magnetic stainless steel backed with strong adhesive. It’s also compatible with other Olight products that have similarly sized magnetic tail caps.

This design feature lets you leave the flashlight anywhere safely.

  • Is There a Difference in the Side Switch?

Predecessors of the Baton 3 Pro have had different side switches. But compared to the Olight S2R Baton II, the side switch of Baton 3 Pro is 56% times larger.

That increases the convenience of operation by 56%.

Highest Level Operational Settings

Branded flashlights are all about power; their marketing strategy’s foundation is how powerful the light is. So, how powerful do you think the Baton Pro 3 is?

This flashlight gives you a throw of 175m with a lumen count of 1500 at maximum candela intensity of 7900.

Olight points out how this is a 30% increase in all performance categories compared to S2R Baton II.

Comfortable Small-volume Dimensions

The dimensions usually increase in any tech product’s “Pro” edition. But having too much of an increment in a flashlight can affect the convenience of use.

Olight has well understood it.

The dimensions of Olight Baton 3 were as follows; length of 2.48 inches, head and body dia of 0.83 inches.

The all-new Olight Baton 3 Pro has all the new features and improvements with a negligible increment of dimensions. They’re as follows:

  • Length of 3.99 inches
  • Head and body dia of 0.91 inches
  • Weight of 3.63 oz (102.9g), including the battery

To me, that’s impressive.

Not All Too Heavy

I absolutely hate it when flashlights are so heavy. Regardless of your flashlight’s feature-packed, I think the design weight shouldn’t exceed the 5 oz level.

The Baton 3 was 1.87 oz, including the pocket clip and the battery. This is an excellent weight for an EDC type and impressive for everything outdoors.

The Baton 3 Pro is 3.63 oz. Although the weight has comparatively increased, I still don’t feel a significant difference.

That’s all that matters.

Smart Battery Level Indicator

full charge Battery Level Indicator of Olight Baton 3 Pro

Too many flashlights come with no battery level indicators. It’s mainly because it complicates the circuit design. But it’s this indicator that saves your battery low-voltage damage.

Why would low-quality flashlight companies do that for you?

But you also don’t want an overcomplicated design that justifies a higher price.

Olight is a brand that seems to understand this need. The Baton pro 3 has a battery level indicator of one single LED light.

If it’s red, it means the charge is less than 10%. Orange if it’s between 10% and 60% and green if the charge is above 60%.

Impressive Battery Life

Battery Life of Olight Baton 3 Pro

There’s no point in buying an EDC if the battery doesn’t last a few days. But Olight’s S1R lasts around 7-8 days with one full charge.

The Baton 3 I own once lasted for 2 weeks. So, when I heard Baton 3 Pro was coming, I expected at least a month. How long do you think a full battery of Baton 3 Pro is supposed to last?

Four months, that’s right. The battery is supposed to last for around one-quarter of the year.

I’ve used the device for seven days and tested everything it had to offer and the light in the battery indicator is still green. I’m still in awe!

  • Is the Battery Rechargeable?

The product is compatible with a Customized 3200mAh 3.6V 18650 Rechargeable Lithium-ion Battery.

Because of that, you won’t have to replace the batteries every now and then.

Olight’s Signature Charging Method

I own a particular overpriced mobile phone brand whose charging cable breaks every now and then.

I most certainly do not want that happening with another device I own.

Thankfully, Olight’s magnetic tail cap MCC 3 charging method also comes to their Olight Baton 3 pro.

So, all you need to do is use the signature USB magnetic charging cable; snap it on and start charging; just like they say.

Multiple Operational Modes

This is 2022; even the lowest-end flashlights have at least two operational modes.

You need operational modes because the user MUST be able to choose the amount of light required.

The Baton 3 Pro has 6 operating modes.

In addition, all the flashlights in Olight’s Baton series had only one light temperature.

But The Baton 3 Pro has two color temperature:

Operational Modes of Olight Baton 3 Pro
  • Cool white in the range of 5700K – 6700K
  • Neutral white in the range of 4000K – 5200K

The cool white light is for enhanced concentration, and the neutral white is more balanced.

So, altogether, you get 12 operational modes in the Olight Baton 3 pro.

That’s how Olight’s superior positioning strategy works. I’ll explain how each mode works with the numbers in a moment.

For now, let’s keep moving forward.

Superior Optics

It is difficult to find flaws when brands like Olight keep bringing value to every single flashlight.

Integration of TIR optics is one such move. But what is TIR, and how does it make a flashlight better?

TIR stands for total internal reflection as a theory of physics.

TIR lenses collimate light. The collimation sends a more concentrated beam of high intensity. This cannot be done with traditional flashlight lenses.

Now, imagine TIR optics merging with a powerful LED. That’s how you impress the flashlight community.

Waterproof and Shockproof Standardization

All the flashlights I own are waterproof with an IP rating. If a flashlight brand tells you its product is waterproof, you MUST look for the IP rating.

Because the IP rating is the globally recognized waterproof rating.

Luckily, the Baton 3 Pro has an IPX8 rating; that’s the highest waterproof rating available.

All the flashlights with this IP rating can be submerged up to 2m deep for 30 mins.

But in reality, you only need the flashlight to be waterproof for an unfortunate set of few seconds.

On the flip side, the drop test of the Baton 3 Pro scored 1.5m. This height is more than enough for a flashlight resistance quality.

Hidden Proximity Sensor

Reducing waste of power should be a priority when using a flashlight. But what if I told you Baton 3 Pro does that for you automatically?

The hidden proximity sensor is hidden in the compact head of the flashlight. When the light beam is blocked by a nearby object, the light will automatically dim.

But what’s even interesting is how the beam’s appearance and shape are unaffected. It’s there solely to reduce blockage risks and accidental activation.

Money Back Guarantee and Warranty

All low-end and shady flashlight companies are too afraid to give a money-back guarantee along with a warranty.

But I’ve noticed how Olight gives this benefit to all of its products.

That’s why you get a 30-day money-back guarantee and a 5-year warranty period for the Baton 3 Pro.

My prime advice is always to buy the product from the official website. It’s much easier for all sorts of claims.

How Each Operational Mode Work?

I told you there were 12 operational modes, the same 6 operations modes under two different color temperatures.

So, can you guess how each of these operates? Let’s see if your guess is correct.

You also get a handy lockout function.

The Price of Baton 3 Pro

The retail price of the Baton 3 Pro is $69.99.

However, their initial offer at the launch is $49.99.

Knowing the industry, this price is likely to rise with the usual high demand for Olight.

Recommended Place to Buy

As always, my recommendation is to buy the Baton 3 Pro from the official Olight store. Here’s the link you want to follow.

There’s nothing wrong with buying from Amazon when available. But the total price will definitely be $70+ with the shipping cost.

Is the Baton 3 Pro Worth the Money?

Olight’s Baton 3 pro is worth the money — I think it’s the game changer Olight has been looking to land for a while.

Olight Baton 3 Pro becomes one of the handful of EDC flashlights that beat my harsh critical analysis. I just can’t seem to find any reason not to recommend you.

With all the features it brings you, I know no one would believe us even if we wanted to say the flashlight was not worth it.
