Notable Features of the Nitecore EDC27
Build Quality and Dimensions
Measuring a length of 135.6mm or 5.34″ and a width of 31.4mm or 1.24″, this everyday carry flashlight is designed to fit comfortably in your pocket with a composite frame.
It weighs a mere 4.37oz or 124g, making it light enough to carry around all day. The knurling pattern on the body provides a comfortable grip, ensuring it won’t slip out of your hand.
The Nitecore EDC27 is built to last from an anti-corrosion, high-strength, and rigid stainless steel body.
Its fine frosted matte finish is scratch-resistant and fingerprint-resistant, keeping it looking sleek and professional.
The flashlight is reinforced with a carbon fiber polymer (CFRP) frame, making it more durable and impact-resistant.
The multi-layer construction of the body is connected by six sets of connector bolts and cap nuts, giving it excellent impact and torsion resistance. The Nitecore EDC27 is designed to withstand the toughest conditions and keep on shining.

It must be noted that not all flashlights come with easy-to-operate tactical designs, making the Nitecore EDC27 an EDC flashlight just as much as a flashlight made for tactical applications.
User Interface
The flashlight features two tail buttons; the strobe & turbo and the mode button. These give you direct access to the strobe/turbo and the main modes.
Unlike the mode button, the strobe/turbo button only allows momentary access.
These switches are designed to provide an excellent grip, even when your hands are wet, ensuring you have complete control over your flashlight.
Let’s see how the interface works,
From OFF:
- Half-press to display the current mode and the battery (short press)
- Half-press for momentary ultra-low mode (long press)
- Single click to access the last used mode with mode memory
Double-clicking doesn’t do anything at this stage.
- Half-press the tail switch for instant access to the TurboReady™ mode. You’ll see the countdown bar while pressing the button, as it lasts only 10-11 seconds.
- Single click for strobe for a max output of 3,000 lumens StrobeReady™ mode provides you with a powerful strobe light that can disorient an attacker or signal for help in an emergency situation.
And, of course, single clicks on the mode button when the flashlight is ON lets you cycle through each mode.
It also has mode memory, which quickly lets you switch to the previously used mode. Features like these make the Nitecore EDC27 very convenient to use.
It doesn’t require a separate indicator to show the remaining battery life; it is shown on the OLED screen.
With that covered, let’s talk about its stainless clip.
OLED Display
The OLED display is sleek and easy to read, with black and white numbers and letters that are readable in any lighting condition.
Not only does the OLED display show you the current level and mode, but it also displays the lumen output and remaining battery life.
This feature is especially useful when you’re in a situation where you need to conserve battery life and want to know how much longer your flashlight will last.
The OLED display also has a lockout mode which prevents accidental activation of the flashlight when it’s not in use.
You’ll find this VERY useful when you’re carrying the flashlight in your pocket or bag and want to avoid accidentally turning it on.

Up next is its dual-stage operations.
Lumen Output and Beam Throw
With five lighting modes and a strobe mode, this flashlight has everything you need to light up your world with a built-in 1700mA battery.
At the top of the line is the turbo mode, which on paper claims to output 3000 lumens of light, actually exceeds that; I got around 3688 lumens in the first 10 to 15 mins.
That’s a major jump which I didn’t expect!
Since the lumen count exceeds the claimed output, it’s a given that the beam throw would change too; my measurement was around 232 meters; even though not as big as the jump of lumen output, it’s still an improvement.
Claimed output is 220 meters by the way!
The high mode emits 1112 lumens with a maximum beam throw of 135 meters and 4437cd of brightness. Whether camping in the wilderness or searching for something in the dark, both these modes have got you covered.
The mid mode provides a max output of 237 lumens. You get a maximum beam throw of 59 meters and 900cd of brightness — I love the beam distance gap here.
For more energy-efficient use, the low mode emits 80 lumens with a maximum beam throw of 35 meters and 302cd of brightness. The brightness is still pretty impressive from high to low modes with increasing runtimes.
Finally, the ultra-low mode emits 18 lumens with a maximum beam throw of 17 meters and 75cd of brightness. I couldn’t help but wish if it had a 1-lumen or 0.5 lumens moonlight mode.
In addition to these impressive lighting modes, the Nitecore EDC27 also has a strobe mode that emits 3000 lumens of light. Whether you need to signal for help or disorient an attacker, the strobe mode is a powerful tool in your flashlight arsenal.
Battery and Rechargeability
The Nitecore features a built-in 1700mAh Li-ion battery that takes only 1 hour and 20 minutes to charge fully. That’s VERY impressive compared to other EDC lights that take about 4-5 hours to charge fully.
Let’s look at the battery life of each mode next.
Let’s start with ultra-low; similar to the lumen outputs, runtimes are also just about the same or even a notch higher than what’s mentioned on paper.
Claimed runtime in ultra-low is 37h; I measured 36h 40mins.So, it’s impressive. That is excellent if you consider the size of the flashlight.
The high mode runs for 1 hour and 12 minutes. The mid-mode runs for 4 hours and 04 minutes. The low mode’s battery life is whopping 12 hours.
With its USB-C rechargeable feature, you can now quickly charge your flashlight using the reversible plug-in cable, which is convenient and practical.
The charging port cover of the EDC27 is made from durable PC material, providing excellent dust and impact resistance. This means you can take your EDC27 with you wherever you go without worrying about damaging it.
No more worries about running out of batteries or constantly buying new ones. The USB-C rechargeable feature of the EDC27 makes it cost-effective and eco-friendly.
Hybrid Heat Dissipation System
One of the most notable features of the Nitecore EDC27 is its hybrid heat dissipation system — that’s very interesting.
The system is made up of two components: an advanced temperature regulation (ATR) module and a copper and external aluminum plate.
The ATR module is responsible for monitoring the temperature of the flashlight and adjusting the output accordingly.
This means that if the flashlight gets too hot, the ATR module will reduce the output to prevent any damage.
The copper and external aluminum plates are also essential to the heat dissipation system.

The first lockout mode is the half lockout mode; press the switch for two clicks to enter half lockout mode.
With the half lockout mode, you can access the turbo and strobe modes while the flashlight is still secure and won’t accidentally turn on in your bag or pocket.
But if you need complete assurance that your flashlight won’t turn on accidentally, the full lockout mode is the way to go.
The flashlight is completely inaccessible in this mode, ensuring it won’t activate unintentionally. This mode is perfect for storing or carrying the flashlight, giving you the peace of mind that your flashlight is secure.
As a matter of fact, with its lockout modes, you can be sure your flashlight won’t accidentally turn on and drain the battery.

My Experience With the EDC27
Nitecore has always been a reliable brand for me. But I was blown away by my experience with the Nitecore EDC27.
One of the first things that caught my attention was the EDC27’s ultra-slim rectangular shape with rounded edges and the small package too.
It provided a comfortable and secure grip, allowing me to easily maneuver the flashlight. I knew that this flashlight was built to last with its anti-corrosive, high-strength, and rigid construction.
But the EDC27’s durability didn’t stop there. Its scratch and fingerprint-resistant surface ensured that the flashlight always looked clean and new, even after heavy use.
Its multi-layer construction provides excellent torsion resistance, so I never had to worry about accidental drops or damage.
One of my favorite features of this EDC flashlight was its ATR heat dissipation system. This technology effectively controlled interior heat, allowing the flashlight to operate efficiently for extended periods.
It’s definitely pretty cool.
The brightness levels of the light are pretty impressive; after all, the range changes from 15 lumens to 3000 lumens across five modes.
Not only that, the TurboReady™ and StrobeReady™ let me access the turbo and strobe modes quickly.
Seeing that clean and bright light illuminating hundreds of distances was quite impressive. The secret is the two luminus SST40 LEDs.
What else could I ask for?
But perhaps one of the most impressive aspects of the EDC27 was its OLED real-time display. This feature showed me important information such as brightness level, runtime remaining, battery voltage, and lockout mode.
What’s so special about this screen is how clean it looks and how it updates in real time. But as I discussed above, there are two lockout modes.
If you want the light to be shut off with a lockout mode, I recommend the full lockout mode. But you’ll come across enough situations where the partial lockout mode will be useful too.
The fact that this little beast recharges in under 1h and 20 minutes is still hard to believe. But on the third charge, it took me only about 1h and 15 minutes. The USB-C method is very convenient.
I believe this is because it was quite cold when I charged the flashlight, which sped up the process.
That’s the power of ATR technology for you!
One of the biggest fears of OLED screens is their water resistance. Now you know that the entire flashlight is completely IPX4 waterproof rated. That basically means that you can peacefully use the flashlight under heavy rain.
Because I didn’t have any rain, I tested the flashlight under a heavy shower, and it worked perfectly fine.
I’m always reluctant to test the impact resistance no matter how strong the flashlight is — yes, even one from a very reliable flashlight brand such as Nitecore. But I was a little reluctant to drop it since I had only one unit; however, the build feels strong enough.
But take my advice, you can check for ALL features, but take my word for this one.
As for the cons, I believe the light could have had a bit more lumens for the lowest mode. I also don’t like the fact that the charging time depends on the cable used, but I understand it’s borderline inevitable.
With that said, my experience with the Nitecore EDC27 has been MAGNIFICIENT. All the features lived up to my expectations, and some features, such as the brightness and the OLED screen, truly impressed me.
